Alphabetic Creams: AA BB CC DD.

Alphabetic Creams AA, BB, CC & DD….. What’s next??   EE???

Just figured out what BB Creams are? Good, because the beauty world has moved on to the rest of the alphabet.
CC creams and DD creams are being marketed as the next new trend for skincare, got it?
Wait, CC ‘s and DD’s? I can’t keep up! I hear you say, but don’t panic if you’re not up on the beauty lingo – you’re not alone.

Every day we are getting hit by a new Alphabetic cream AA, BB, CC or DD creams. What are they? Why are they used? What is the purpose? Why not All-in-one cream? Let’s have a look at each of them & find out what suits us best & satisfies our requirements.

AA = “anti-aging”

Very simple: You want to slow the visible signs of the aging process. The two things you need to know about Anti-Aging cream are peptides and retinoids. Peptides act like little chemical messengers that shoot through the body, shaking the old cells out of bed and making them produce collagen like a sweatshop with an order for knock-off handbags. Collagen is what boosts skin from underneath and helps it look younger.

Retinoids are Vitamin A derivatives that can help unclog pores, reduce fine lines and smooth skin from the top layer. Peptides boost skin from underneath, retinoids smooth skin from the top. Use this information to pick your favorite product accordingly: Try peptides if you’re losing elasticity, use retinoids if you’re acne-prone and you want to have a face that’s smooth as a hockey rink.

BB= Beauty Balm/Blemish Balm
The BB has become ultra-popular in the last few years. It’s heavier than a tinted moisturizer, yet lighter than a foundation. Tinted moisturizers are great for providing a bit of colour, and were once all the rage. However, they have lost their popularity in recent times due to the proliferation of these double-letter potions.
These new BB creams are multitasking, in that they hydrate, prime, protect and perfect all in one. Most are also tinted, leaving you no reason to apply foundation. So you can wave goodbye to all those extra products (or so they claim). They are available in different brand starting from high end to average in different shades.
    Pros
  • ·         Gives the perfect amount of coverage
  • ·         Available in different brands & different shades to match your complexion.
  • ·         Helps get rid of discoloration in the skin
  • ·         Diminishes dullness, dryness, and blotchiness
  • ·         Hydrates your skin
  • ·         Kind of lightweight foundation that gives you glow & smoother skin.
  • ·         Comes with Anti-Aging, SPF or Vitamin C etc benefits.

   Cons
  • ·         Doesn’t provide full coverage.
  • ·         Shade matching your skin tone can be a problem. (Depends on the brand)
  • ·         Can make you look oily or shiny if you have oily skin. (Depends on the brand)

CC Creams = Colour Correction
If redness, pigmentation or broken capillaries are a problem for your skin then the colour-correcting (CC) creams are going to be your bag.
They’re more lightweight than a BB cream so think of it as a friend primer with benefits. The idea here is to correct your skin tone (makeup artists do this with green, red or yellow toned make-up) before you go ahead a plop (technical term) on a layer of foundation/tinted moisturizer/mineral powder.
CC’s are fantastic for those who suffer from Rosacea  – although if you have particularly sensitive or reactive skin, you may need to road test a couple of brands first.
These newbies’ also claim to hide dullness and fatigue (this changes EVERYTHING!) and fade pigmentation with chemicals like N-acetyl glucosamine and niacin amide but we’ll have to see how that goes in the long term. Available from Chanel, Clinique, Smashbox , MAC etc
   Pros:
  • ·         Light weight
  • ·         Long lasting
  • ·         Corrects colour
  • ·         Natural looking
  • ·         Includes SPF
  • ·         Available in Different shades (Depend on the brand)

   Cons:
  • ·         Doesn’t come with a lot of other beneficial ingredients.

DD Creams= Daily Defense
So the beauty folk are keeping pretty mum about this one but what we know so far is that DD creams are emerging as very heavy duty body and foot moisturizers marketed as “Daily Defense” products.
And no, I don’t know what that means either. But as soon as I know I’ll fill you in.

EE=Erase Everything (Just Kidding) But you never know ;-)
